Privacy Policy
LandmarkHeroes — Effective date: 2026-08-17
This policy explains what data LandmarkHeroes (the "Game") and its optional online features collect, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to every version of the Game, including alpha and playtest builds.
Data controller: Welkrum Studios, an independent game development company based in Denmark. Contact: contact@welkrumstudios.com
1. Your save data stays on your device
Your character, progress, and game state are saved locally in your browser or app installation (localStorage). We do not receive, see, or store your save data unless you explicitly submit it through one of the two features below.
2. What we collect, and why
In-game Feedback Reports (opt-in — you choose to submit one)
When you use the in-game "Send Feedback" feature, the report you send includes:
- The note you write, and the report type (bug / balance / general).
- Game version, and your current screen/tab.
- A summary of your character (name, race, class, level, gold, alignment) and current world state (region, location, in-game day, season).
- Your currently active quest, your recent play statistics, and the last 20 lines of your in-game message log.
- The last 10 technical error messages captured during your session, if any occurred.
- A screenshot of the game window, only if you explicitly tick the box to include one.
Sending a report also transmits your IP address to our hosting provider (Cloudflare), used only to prevent spam/abuse (rate-limiting) — it is not stored as part of the report content itself.
Why: to diagnose bugs, balance issues, and improve the Game.
Where it goes: your report is relayed through a Cloudflare Worker and stored as an issue in a private GitHub repository visible only to Welkrum Studios.
Leaderboard Submissions (opt-in — you choose to submit a score)
If you submit a score to the public leaderboard, we receive a randomly generated identifier tied to your save file, the display name you choose to enter, the score and category, and (like the feedback feature) your IP address for rate-limiting.
Why: to operate the public leaderboard feature.
Where it goes: stored via the same Cloudflare-based relay infrastructure, shown publicly on the leaderboard under the display name you chose.
3. What we don't do
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising or third-party tracking in the Game. We do not collect any data beyond the two features described above — there is no background analytics or telemetry.
4. Legal basis (GDPR)
Both features are opt-in and require you to actively choose to submit data, so our legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Processing your IP address for rate-limiting/abuse-prevention is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the service usable for everyone.
5. Retention
Feedback reports and leaderboard entries are kept for as long as reasonably needed for game development and operating the leaderboard. We do not currently have an automatic deletion schedule — if you'd like a specific report or leaderboard entry removed, contact us (see below) and we will delete it.
6. Your rights
If you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar protections, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of data we hold about you, to object to or restrict our processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Denmark, the Datatilsynet). To exercise any of these, email contact@welkrumstudios.com — since our feedback/leaderboard data isn't tied to a login account, please include enough detail (e.g. approximate submission time, character name used) for us to locate the right record.
7. Where data is processed
We use Cloudflare (for relaying and rate-limiting both features) and GitHub (for storing feedback reports) as processors acting on our behalf. Both may process or store data outside the EEA (primarily the US); both provide data-protection safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses, as part of their terms for this kind of processing.
8. Children's privacy
The Game is not directed at collecting personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the feedback or leaderboard features, contact us and we will remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Game's features change. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
